JUNE 23, 2005: RDBC Practice Added
Please take note that we have added a practice on TUESDAY JUNE 28TH to be held at the Mississauga Canoe Club. We orginally had this week off, but at the request of nearly everyone at this past Tuesday's practice, we are going to book another practice for next week. We need to officially confirm this, but we will email you all with the final details.

JUNE 22, 2005: Montreal Hotels Booked !!!
I just wanted to let everyone on the team know that we have booked our rooms in Montreal. We are staying right in the heart of the bar district, so no more long cab rides to get to the bars this time! We are staying at the Quality Inn Downtown. We have booked 6 rooms for 3 nights checking in July 29th and checking out August 1st. Over the next few weeks we have to put together a room inventory for the hotel. We will need to find out from everyone when you are planning on heading down to Montreal and if you are bringing anyone along.

JUNE 17, 2005: RDBC Profile Section Updated
Please visit the profile section of the website. Every team member now has their photo up in the profile section. I still have to get to know a few of you a bit better before I zing you in your written profile!

JUNE 14, 2005: RDBC Back From BOSTON!
RDBC has just returned from a whirlwind trip to Boston Massachusetts! What an amazing few days! Not only did we leave Boston with some incredible paddling experience (click on the great action shot on the right) but we packed in more memories than our team papparazzi (Cleland) could possibly capture.

Speaking of Mike 'Papparazzi' Cleland, if you haven't heard yet, he proposed to Christina Heydorn on Saturday after our second race!!

With Mike sitting the second race and Christina placed at the back of the boat so that she would be last off, we had all the preparation we needed. As Christina worked her way down the traditional RUCKUS line of high fives, Mike was waiting for her at the end on one knee. After telling him to get up off the dock and taking a quick glance around at all the teary-eyed paddlers, it finally dawned on her. Christina accepted and the two of them embraced to the applause of hundreds of paddlers and spectators. Congratulations Christina and Mike!

I could write forever about Boston, but I'll leave it short and sweet; Boston is a beautiful city and we made the best of our short stay and left a little RUCKUS behind. Have a look at your 2005 RUCKUS Dragon Boat Crew by clicking on the photo to the right. We have everyone in attendance but the studious Jason Ilagon who is going to make up for his absence in Montreal!

JUNE 6, 2005: RDBC Competes in C Division Championship!
One down and three to go. We just completed our first festival of the season and what a great learning experience for all of us. The race times were fantastic considering we had not even practiced a single race set leading up to the festival. We had one practice without our coach and simply ran out of time to go over all the logistics of a race plan.

Fortunately rookies and veterans alike stepped up and really put it all out on the water. With 3 fantastic race times and some valuable experience to build on, we hope to make a lasting impression at the Boston festival next weekend!

BOSTON, HERE WE COME BABY!!

MAY 10, 2005: RDBC Water Practices Begin
On Tuesday May 10th the first of 10 water practices begin at Sunnyside Park. We start the season on the water at 8:00 but all team members are expected to be there 1/2 hr in advance to begin warming up.

Since tonight is our first water practice we are going to get an early start for the RDBC rookies on the team. Rookies are welcome and encouraged to get to Sunnyside for 7:00pm so that Boss can go over some introductory information on dragon boating.

We're crossing our fingers, hoping the rain holds off!

APRIL 27, 2005: RDBC Profile Section Updated
Please visit the profile section of the website. I've tried to update as many photos as possible. As the season progresses I'll be adding photos of the new team members.

APRIL 20, 2005: RDBC Hires Coach
Breaking news! RDBC has finally secured themselves of a coach for the 2005 season. Word coming from TDBC is that Kyle Jeffrey will be coaching us for the 2005 season.

So, who is heck is Kyle Jeffrey?! That is exactly what I was thinking!

Well, Kyle paddles a war canoe out of the Mississauga Canoe Club, and Boss thinks that he is a world class war canoe paddler. He also paddled in Shang-hi with the Canadian Mens National Dragon Boat team. Blake from TDBC says he is a very technical coach, much like Jeff, our coach for the second half of the season in 2004. Blake also informed us that as a coach Kyle is very motivational and outgoing - a prerequiste for coaching a team like Ruckus!

So, you would think that since Kyle paddles out of the Mississauga Canoe Club (MCC) he would also be our coach at the pool practices since they are going to be held at the MCC. Well, that is not the case. Just like last year, Blake is going to coach us at the pool practices and we will get a chance to meet Kyle at our first water practice.

Lastly, I just checked out the website for the MCC. They have a few pictures of the pool practice facilities and they look pretty good! Have a peak at this picture here. I guarantee you someone is falling in the pool!

My money is on Gianni!

APRIL 16, 2005: RDBC Season Kickoff Party
A classic Ruckus evening to say the least! Plenty of partying, socializing, catching up with old friends and making a few new ones along the way. There was plenty to drink thanks to the smooth negotiating skills of Frenchie, and Boss and Frenchie put together a spread of food that even our team had a hard time finishing.

The party took place at Boss's party room. Strict guidelines forced us to hire a security guard for the evening (probably a good idea!). The guard started off monitoring who was able to come into the party room, but by the end of the evening he was passing around tray's of shots for a new RDBC tradition (maybe) : Russian Roulette with a loaded shot.

If you missed it, the concept is simple. A tray comes out with one shot for everyone in the room. All shots but one are tasty, fruity shots - easy to handle. But one of the shots is loaded; loaded with something that is sure to make you salivate, flinch, cringe and sigh. Of course, we modified the game slightly at the end when we ran out of tasty shots. There were actually only 5 tasty shots, the other 20 were loaded!

Speaking of loaded, was Ang holding up Christina, or Christina holding up Ang at 'My Apartment'? And who requested the triple play of Bon Jovi??? I have a feeling that Boomer sent a special request from out in Van City ...

A great night was had by all, thanks to all of those who attended!
